The FISH of McHenry, Illinois

Welcome to the FISH of McHenry Food Pantry's web site

Statement of Organization's Purpose
FISH is an International Interdenominational Service Organization founded during World War II by clergy during the war in England.

FISH of McHenry was chartered and organized in 1973. It is an all volunteer service organization that strives to meet the supplemental emergency needs of the disadvantaged in our community. Often it "fills the gap" while people are waiting for public aid, food stamps, disability or unemployment compensation to begin. It operates solely on donations of money and goods.

FISH is a food pantry, open Tuesday and Thursday each week, from 9:00-11:30 am, by appointment for people who qualify. Available are canned, boxed and dry foods, soaps, toiletries and other necessities for single adults. Families with children (17 and under) receive vouchers to local food stores.

Help is also available to these McHenry area families for complete Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday food.

FISH also serves as a referral agency throughout McHenry County.

The FISH Food Pantry will REMAIN OPEN!! Due to the committment from the volunteers and the outpouring of support from our community, the pantry will continue its mission to feed the hungry in our community. Congratulations to Barb Pierce and Kathleen Moehling on their retirement. Their committment and service will be greatly missed!

Due to the economic atmosphere our needs have never been greater at the pantry and we hope that churches and organizations continue with their food drives and donations.

FISH Newsletter

The past several months the pantry has continued to see a dramatic increase of the number of families using the pantry. As we go into the summer months, we must remember that children are not receiving lunch and breakfast like they do during the school year, increasing the needs at home.

HOW ELSE CAN I HELP?

Every year FISH receives many phone calls asking "How can I help? I can't volunteer but isn't there something I can do"?
